IIECL Completes CSR Review of Risks of Child Labor in Coffee Sector in Nicaragua

A team of IIECL staff, Diane Mull and Martine Combemale, have completed a review of the risks of child labor for coffee producers in Nicaragua. The review was based on the framework of ISO 26000, Chapter 6 related to corporate social responsibility. The review included a task mapping of the phases of coffee production and a job hazards and risks analysis of work performed during the coffee production process. The results of the review will be published in October by the ENTERATE project of the American Institutes for Research (AIR), a project funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.  As part of the activities, IIECL staff provided briefings of the results of the study with 600 coffee producers, exporters, buyers and brands at RAMACAFE, the Ministry of Labor, and key stakeholders in Nicaragua in August and will present at the EXPO-APEN in September in Nicaragua.
